There are masses of restaurants and bars all over Düsseldorf. The MacDonalds and Pizza Huts are there if you need them – and as well as local German restaurants you can get the same range of foreign cuisine you would find back home.
My favourites are :-
Schwann or zum goldenen Ring – on Burgplatz – you can eat outside or in
Altstadt – serving all kinds of grills – on Bergstrasse
Eating out for every meal can get a bit pricy, so you might want to try fast food outlets.
Look for the sign Imbiss – where you can get Bratwurst (sausage) Currywurst (sausage with a curry sauce) Pommes Frites (chips), Frikadellen (burgers).
Or you might want to try one of the many Turkish outlets where you can get a kebab, chips and salad and a drink for less than 5 euros.
Another way to re-fuel cheaply is to buy a filled roll (belegtes Brötchen) or a pannini at a bakers. There’s a chain called Kamp, which seems to be on every corner.
The local beer in Dusseldorf is called Alt. It’s a dark beer. If that’s not to your taste, try Pils or Koelsch (which is what they drink just down the river in Cologne)
