Kickers Offenbach
The town of Offenbach is 5 miles from Frankfurt. And it is home to Offenbacher Kickers.
In 1901 a group of footballers got together to form a new club which was eventually to become the club know today as Offenbacher Kickers. The club enjoyed considerable success in the 1920s and 1930s, but its heyday was definitely between 1968 and 1984 when it spent 7 seasons in the Bundesliga. In 1984, financial problems resulted in relegation to the third division (at that time the amateur Oberliga Hessen)
Since then the Kickers have moved up and down the leagues, spending seasons in the 2 Bundesliga, 3. Liga and the fourth tier Regionalliga Südwest.
Despite its mixed fortunes Kickers Offenbach has retained the loyalty of many fans. Average attendance in 2017/18 was 6,199 – not bad for the fourth division.
Stadium
The Sparda-Bank-Hessen-Stadion opened in 2009. It has a capacity of 20,500, with 10,300 seats and 10,200 standing places. It is designed to maximise the atmosphere. The club website claims, for example, that fans are so close to the pitch they can almost smell the grass.
